The Zacharias Estate represents one of the oldest estates in the Nemea appellation.” This appellation is renowned as the highest quality among Greek PDOs. Ilias Zacharias and his team cultivate nearly 13 different grape varieties. The Zacharias family cultivates Sklava on a single vineyard of 6 hectares (15% of the total estate). Thus, this grape variety may represent one of the oldest indigenous Greek varieties. The dry white Sklava wine will offer you an incomparable tasting experience. It reveals all the expertise and passion of Greek viticulture from the Zacharias Estate. This variety produces a wine with an expressive nose, of medium intensity, with absolute aromatic purity. The notes of lemon, apricot, and peach will remind you of the Viognier grape variety. You’ll notice nuances of jasmine accompanied by aromas of pear, apple, and bergamot on a botanical background reminiscent of mountain tea. The flavors of green apple, pear, bergamot, and citrus blossoms of this dry white Sklava wine will enchant your palate. A pleasantly smoky flavor is perceived at the end of the tasting. This wine will perfectly accompany your pasta dishes, fish, and poultry. Regardless of the season, it will elevate your recipes for linguine and tagliatelle with ‘alle vongole’ clam sauce. These subtle aromas of fruit and citrus pair perfectly with fish en papillote or with an herb crust.

Your questions about Dry white wine – Sklava – 2023 – Zacharias Winery

It is a very old white grape variety from Argolis, known locally since the 12th century, which had been nearly abandoned. It is particularly thanks to the efforts of Elias Zacharias, who replanted one and a half hectares, that the Sklava grape has come back into the spotlight.

The Sklava is not an ordinary white wine. Its nose could easily suggest a Viognier or a Riesling (peach, apricot, lemon); it is a very dry but aromatic wine; on the palate, it is long, ample, spicy, and very lively.
