The organic red wine Lexis M from Zacharias Winery is an exceptional wine that embodies elegance and sophistication The Zacharias winery is one of the oldest in the Nemea appellation. It is considered the highest quality appellation among Greek PDO. The vineyard area is spread across the mountains of the region, at altitudes ranging from 200 to 850 meters. This specificity allows the Zacharias winery to cultivate its vines differently. Thanks to this, it can produce wines with a unique character. After more than 60 years of existence, Ilias Zacharias, trained agronomist, decided to gradually lead a new development on the estate. Indeed, his intention is to steer the vineyard towards organic farming. To achieve this, he has allocated a portion of the estate to 100% organic farming. The family estate has succeeded in combining modernity, tradition, and passion. The organic red wine Lexis M ‘Oak & Cement’ is made from a single grape variety, the Mavrodaphne. With its deep red colour, this wine is astonishing at first sight. On the nose, dense notes of laurel, violet flowers, and chocolate stand out. On the palate, the Lexis M is full-bodied and structured, with silky tannins and beautiful acidity. That’s why this wine is the perfect companion for your most refined meals, from grilled meats to game, roasted lamb in the oven, or aged cheeses. Thus, enjoy it during your special moments and let yourself be seduced by its timeless charm and unique character.

Culinary pairing

  • Grilled meats: rib steaks, sirloin steaks, or even marinated beef ribs. Mix 4 tablespoons of soy sauce, 5 tablespoons of organic ‘Ellados’ olive oil, 3 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of paprika. Add one finely minced garlic clove and a few leaves of fresh basil. Let it marinate for about 4 hours before cooking.

 

  • Game and saucy meats: beef bourguignon, coq au vin, or even Bacchus fondue in red wine.

 

  • Roast lamb: preheat your oven to 180°C, generously brush your leg of lamb with honey, then sprinkle it with thyme, salt, and pepper. Drizzle with a dash of olive oil, then bake for about 45 minutes. Enjoy !

Mavrodaphne is an old Greek red grape variety. Its name means “Black Laurel.” It is primarily grown on the Ionian Islands of Lefkada and Kefallonia, as well as in Achaia, the northwestern part of the Peloponnese. It is an early-maturing, high-yielding vine. It produces aromatic red wines that are richly colored and tannic, with aromas of vanilla and plums, and a good aging potential.
